This Hawaiian Shake Recipe is The Best!

This thick, creamy, refreshing shake is the perfect recipe for the long, hot summer afternoons.

It’s a healthy version of “Pina-Colada meets Orange Julius,” combining some of my all-time favorite flavors.

I like this shake so much that it’s the only reason I always keep coconut extract on hand!

Ingredients for Tropical Shake

  • 1 ripe banana, cut into pieces and frozen for several hours
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks, frozen for several hours (you can use fresh or canned)
  • 3 Tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate
  • ½ cup milk (any kind will work)
  • ½ cup pineapple juice (using canned pineapple makes it easy especially if you’re using canned pineapple — but you can also substitute water if you’d like)
  • 2 Tablespoons shredded coconut, optional
  • 1 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 6 ice cubes

Hawaiian Shake Variations and Substitutions

There are many ways to mix up this smoothie recipe based on your taste preferences (or what you already have in the house).

  • Try using coconut milk for the milk.
  • Add some Greek yogurt.
  • Throw in some frozen spinach to make it a “green smoothie”.
  • Leave out the optional shredded coconut if you don’t have it in the house.
  • Substitute vanilla extract for the coconut extract if you prefer one flavor over another.
  • Add in a little sweetener if desired (you likely won’t need it so taste-test it first)

How to Make A Tropical Smoothie

1. Blend all ingredients in a Vita-Mix or high-powered blender.

2. Pour into 2 glasses and garnish with additional shredded coconut or orange slices.
